Sunshines, Spice and Everything Nice

Yousra Razik Nisrine. Seven syllables and nine vowels. Very easy to say but hard to remember. Razik, my last name, doesn't have much meaning to me because it is not a clear representation of me because it is only a tie I share with my dad. All of my other family members have different spellings that range from Raziq to Razak. My father, brother and I are the only ones who spell it "Razik" (the correct way i've been told). Yousra, my first name, means easy-going. I hope to believe this is true among those who know me. Nisrine, my middle name, means sunshine. Easy-going sunshine seems like such the duo. I believe this defines me because I am always smiling. In some aspects I am easy going while in others I am not such as making plans. Although, I feel that sunshine represents me more. I am always happy or try to be and my birthday is on the first day of summer (June 21st). I sometimes wish my middle name was my first name because it represents me more than my actual first name. Nevertheless, I love my name due to the originality and it's not common (at least not at Millbrook).

A dilemma I've always felt like I had is while at work. During the summer I worked at Millbrook Exchange as a Camp Counselor. There were two "me's". The me while in front of the kids and the individual me. In front of the kids, I must act like a role model. Everything I say and do is being recorded by them and shapes how they view me. I need to participate in the games we play and have a loud voice. The only emotion I am allowed to feel in front of them is happiness because they deserve my absolute best. Individually, I have so much not figured out. I am not the perfect counselor they think I am. I do not want the responsibilities they think are so great. I am a different person in front of children and my friends. With children, there is almost no sense of reality and cons in a situation because everything will be wonderful and work itself out while I know individually, that is not the case.
